KS2 foreign currency cards for Y4–Y6. Four currencies, real exchange rates, quick-fire mental maths challenges. Active learning throughout.

Cut-out trump cards that bring foreign currency to life through fast-paced pair challenges. Pupils compare Euro, US Dollar, Indian Rupee, and Chinese Yuan — each card showing the currency’s code, symbol, countries of use, and exchange rate to and from GBP. The second sheet gives a full visual reference of real coins and notes for each currency, grounding the maths in what money actually looks like around the world.

Works perfectly as a standalone activity for any class, whether or not pupils are studying a particular country or planning a trip abroad.

Supports the KS2 Mathematics curriculum (decimals, multiplication and division by 10 and 100, money) and links naturally to geography and PSHE.

Why not try the full foreign currency lesson, also here on TES!

This activity is one of hundreds of resources on the Tykeoons primary financial education platform.

This resource contains:

  • Four double-sided currency trump cards (one set per pair): Euro, US Dollar, Indian Rupee, Chinese Yuan
  • Coins and notes reference sheet for all four currencies

Challenge ideas:

  • Arrange the four currencies from strongest to weakest (most to least valuable unit)
  • How much of each currency would you get for £10?
  • Find the currency where a loaf of bread might cost ‘20’
  • Find the currency where a bottle of water might cost ‘100’
  • In which currencies would £20 be enough to buy something priced at ‘100’?
