This resource was designed to be used within a film studies unit focusing on the moral issues and moral dilemmas that the characters faced in the film Remember the Titans (2000).

Reference List

  • Remember the Titans [Movie poster]. (2000). Walt Disney Pictures.
  • Bruckheimer, J. (Producer), & Yakin, B. (Director). (2000). Remember the Titans [Motion picture]. Walt Disney Pictures.
  • Boaz Yakin (Director). (2000). Remember the Titans [Film still]. Walt Disney Pictures.

It includes taglines for the film, a list of characters and who they are played by, a list of possible themes (students tick those which they think are in the film), a summary of the film. There is a section of key quotes (students must figure out who said them).

Students had to produce a 600-700 word formal speech analysing the moral and ethical dilemmas that the characters faced in the film. They had to discuss how textual structures, language and visual features had been used ot influence how the audience would respond.

The booklet included some tips for the assignment (including planning steps). There was a glossary of film terms e.g. narrator, narrative viewpoint, shot sizes, transition, montage, slow motion. There was information about how to structure a formal speech with suggestions for what each body paragraph could be about. There were proofreading steps and oral presentation hints.

There were also 2 retrieval charts / graphic organisers for recording their observations of moral dilemmas in the film.
