AQA GCSE Geography lesson for Unit 2C: In this lesson we look at an example of a local sustainable energy scheme in an LIC or NEE

There is a retrieval practice starter based on the content from the previous lessons. We begin by locating the scheme. The students write a geographical description using the information that is on the board. They are then presented with a diagram of the scheme and some annotations which they need to work out which annotations go where. They then complete a paragraph that explains why Chambamontera required a sustainable energy scheme. The students need to work out what the pictures are representing in order to complete the paragraph. We then look at the benefits of the scheme for the local community, the students highlight the ‘thumbs-up’ icons according to how big a benefit they think it is. They then systematically rank these. We then look at how sustainable the scheme is, after reminding the students of the three aspects of sustainable energy production they complete a Venn-diagram and conclude how sustainable they think the scheme is.

We finish with 6-mark GCSE-style question based on the content of the lesson and the students have some tips and guidance on how to answer it if required. They also have a writing frame.
