A complete, fully-resourced lesson on the dispersion of light, aligned to the Cambridge IGCSE (9-1) Physics (0972/0625) syllabus — section 3.2.4.
This resource, last updated June 2026, covers all three learning objectives for this section: explaining dispersion as the separation of white light into its component colours when passing through a glass prism (because different colours slow down by different amounts, causing them to bend by different amounts); the traditional seven colours of the visible spectrum (ROYGBIV) in order of both frequency and wavelength; the relationship between frequency and wavelength across the visible spectrum (red = longest wavelength/lowest frequency; violet = shortest wavelength/highest frequency); and the definition of monochromatic light as light of a single frequency or wavelength. The lesson includes lab-context slides drawing on real practical work with prisms.
Includes retrieval questions and exam-style Q&A slides — suitable for Years 9–11. Follows naturally from refraction of light and links directly into the electromagnetic spectrum topic.
Part of the complete Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0972/0625) Waves series — all individual lessons are available separately or as a bundle in the shop.
