Specification references covered: P2.26, P2.31 (H) (F = Δp÷t; dangers of large decelerations; crumple zones; seat belts; airbags)

The 6-mark crumple zone LoR question appears on the Higher paper and is the most heavily weighted extended writing question in CP2.

The Topic Mastery Sheet reproduces the complete Level 3 indicative content from the official mark scheme, structured clearly: force depends on momentum change and time; crumple zone increases stopping time; reduced time gives reduced force; seat belts essential; passenger without seat belt hits dashboard at short stopping time giving very large force. Two worked Higher calculations are included: F at 0.08 s = 350 000 N; F with crumple zone at 0.4 s = 70 000 N (5× smaller).

The Student Exam Practice Sheet (20 marks) includes: 6-mark crumple zone LoR with Level descriptors; seat belt necessity explanation; change in momentum calculation; braking force calculation; crumple zone force comparison with comment; other safety feature; why large decelerations are dangerous; and airbag mechanism.
