Edexcel International A Level Chemistry Core Practical 10 lesson on finding activation energy using the Arrhenius equation and graphs. All this and more covered in this comprehensive lesson with questions and answers! This is a Year 13 A2 level lesson for Edexcel International Unit 6 – WCH16/01, but it can also be used for Edexcel UK A level, since the practical is the same! All the slides in this lesson are fully animated and include answers to every mini plenary question and exam question.

Slide 1 - Title and 5-minute starter. The starter is a grid of four questions entitled ‘last week, last lesson, today’s learning and future learning’. Use this generic slide for all your lessons by simply changing the questions and the answers each time.

Slides 11 – 12: this section gives an overview of the practical. Students will not be familiar with bromination of phenol at this stage, so care must be taken to explain the chemistry step-by-step
Slides 13 - 20: this section unpicks some of the steps in the method in a bit more detail, explaining thoroughly some techniques or concepts which Edexcel frequently assume your students (or you!) know already! This will also help students with Paper 6 exam questions and understand why they are doing certain steps in the method. The role of methyl red in this investigation is clearly explained here
Slides 21 – 24: important notes on the practical, focussing mainly on the maths involved in the analysis and where the ln t term comes from!
Slide 25 – safety slide to be displayed during the practical
Slides 26 - 28: sample results (at least one group in your class will need these!)
Slides 29 - 31: analysis questions to be completed after the practical. Print and have to hand for those groups which will finish early
Slide 32: answers to the analysis questions animate on the slides as you click, for you to review with your class
Slides 33 - 35: evaluation questions. These are exam-style questions and students should complete these in their exercise books. The hidden slides are intended to be printed
