Colourful Semantics: My Class

Colourful Semantics is a structured approach that uses colour-coded prompts to help children understand how sentences are built and develop their spoken and written language.

The “My Class” Colourful Semantics Pack supports pupils to create meaningful sentences about familiar people, objects, actions and activities in their classroom.

Pupils build sentences by answering colour-coded questions such as:

  • Who? – Who is the sentence about?
  • What doing? – What are they doing?
  • What? – What are they using, holding or looking at?
  • Where? – Where is it happening?

Using familiar classroom situations makes sentence building meaningful and accessible while supporting vocabulary, sentence structure, communication, comprehension and independent writing.

The pack is particularly suitable for pupils with SEN/SEND, speech and language needs, autism, EAL needs, or pupils who benefit from additional visual support.
