This focused Cold War revision resource is designed to support GCSE narrative questions by developing students’ ability to select, sequence, and organise key events into a clear historical narrative.

Students are given a set of 18 statements covering major developments across the Cold War. For each narrative topic, they must identify the three statements that best match that narrative and then arrange them in chronological order from beginning to outcome. This mirrors the core thinking required in narrative exam answers, without requiring extended writing.

The resource also includes a short image-matching task at the end, where students match symbolic images to the correct Cold War narrative. This provides an additional retrieval check and helps reinforce overall chronological understanding.

The resource includes:

Six Cold War narrative topics, ranging from early tensions to the collapse of the Soviet Union

A structured sorting and sequencing task focused on exam-style narrative thinking

An image-based retrieval activity for consolidation or extension

Answers provided in the notes section of each slide for easy checking and discussion

This resource works well as a revision lesson, non-writing narrative practice, or pre-exam consolidation activity. It requires minimal preparation and is suitable for use with GCSE History classes.

Fully editable and adaptable for different exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, OCR, and Eduqas.
