Most students recognize Cleopatra’s name but know surprisingly little about the woman behind the legend. This lesson moves beyond the familiar stories of pyramids and mummies to explore the evidence surrounding Cleopatra’s life, political achievements, and relationships with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony.

Along the way, students distinguish historical fact from popular myth while discovering why Cleopatra became one of history’s most influential rulers.

Students also investigate the pyramids, the Great Sphinx, hieroglyphics, the Rosetta Stone, mummification, the Nile River, Alexandria, the Great Library, Egyptian religion, and the role of Egypt as Rome’s breadbasket. Interactive activities challenge learners to advise Cleopatra before her meetings with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, encouraging historical reasoning, persuasive communication, and informed decision-making before comparing their ideas with historical events.
