This Scheme of Work has been created to support the delivery of Unit 3: Ensemble Performance for the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Music Performance.

Unit 3 is a highly practical unit. While students will spend much of their time rehearsing, refining and performing as part of an ensemble, this resource has been designed to develop the wider professional skills required for success. Alongside musical rehearsals, students learn how to rehearse effectively, evaluate and debrief their performances, communicate confidently to camera, set up and manage a performance space, write insightful critical reviews, and work collaboratively as professional musicians. The lessons are intended to be delivered throughout the rehearsal process, allowing students to apply each new skill immediately within their ensemble work.

The lessons should be delivered throughout the rehearsal period, introducing key concepts and practical techniques at the point they become most relevant. Rather than teaching the presentations in quick succession, I recommend spacing them throughout the project to allow students time to apply and develop each new idea in rehearsal.

Each lesson includes a polished presentation featuring clear teaching explanations, illustrations, videos, hidden teacher notes, practical rehearsal activities, discussion prompts and independent learning tasks. Everything has been designed to help students develop the skills required for success in the external assessment.

Unlike some of my other resources, this pack does not include written worksheets. Instead, the presentations are intended to promote discussion, practical exploration and student note-taking, creating lessons that feel much more like authentic rehearsals than traditional classroom sessions.

Every lesson and activity has been trialled with students and refined through classroom use to ensure the content is engaging, practical and effective.

This resource has been created using Google Slides. To ensure text formatting, animations and layouts display correctly, I recommend re-uploading the downloaded files to a free Google Drive account and opening them in Google Slides.
