This lesson is planned and ready to go — all you have to do is print the sheets and hide the baseball players around the room! You can make it as easy or as challenging as you like depending on how you use the space.

Students each receive a worksheet containing the melody to “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” but with several bars missing. Around the classroom, baseball players are hidden, each holding one of the missing bars of music. Students move around the room to find the players and carefully copy the notes onto their worksheet. We love a lesson that sneaks in theory practice while students are having fun! Once all the bars have been found, students are left with a complete piece of sheet music which they can then play on their instrument — xylophone, keyboard, piano, recorder, or any treble clef instrument. Full sheet music with lyrics and chords is included if you’d like to lead a class performance from your piano.

This low-prep activity can be printed once and reused across multiple classes and year levels. I’d suggest it for approximately 12-14 year olds, but check the preview to see if it’s the right fit for your students.

This lesson takes the familiar and accessible “write the room” format and levels it up. Instead of stopping at note recognition, students are rewarded with the chance to actually play a complete song, making the learning purposeful and satisfying.

I hope you and your students enjoy this baseball-themed music activity!

Make it as easy or as difficult as you like. Students each get a worksheet which contains sheet music for a seasonal or themed song, but several bars are missing. They go on a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt to find the missing bars (held by elves, baseball players, leprechauns etc to match the theme) which the students copy onto their sheet. Gotta get that music theory into your lessons! Once they have found all the missing bars, they will have the completed sheet music to play on their xylophone, keyboard, piano, recorder - or any treble clef instrument really! Full sheet music with lyrics and chords is included if you want to lead a class performance from the piano. Music teachers are busy year-round and it can be tough to incorporate seasonal activities in a packed curriculum. You probably teach multiple classes and year groups and it's impossible to create individual lessons for them all for every single occasion! With some seasonal and some "evergreen" variations included in the bundle, you can have these ready for any time of year. These lessons are low-prep and can be used with multiple different age groups - print once and use for multiple classes! I'd suggest using from around age 10-14, but check out the previews to judge for your own students.
