This resource provides a complete ASDAN History Short Course Module 3B5 mini-project designed to support the delivery of ASDAN’s Short Course in History. Over approximately 5 hours of structured learning, students explore contrasting interpretations of the British Empire before producing a creative and evaluated outcome suitable as evidence for the ASDAN portfolio.

Learners will investigate a range of visual sources, analyse historical perspectives, and develop reasoned written judgement — combining enquiry, evaluation, and creative communication.

What Students Will Do

In this project students will:

  • Research and examine a range of images relating to the British Empire
  • Evaluate how each image conveys positive or negative historical messages
  • Write a 200–250 word informative text for a proposed documentary brochure titled: “The Great British Empire: Was it really a force for good?”
  • Justify their choice of one image to include in their final brochure based on interpretation and audience impact
  • Produce an illustrated brochure outcome that demonstrates understanding and historical judgement

Skills Developed

  • Historical interpretation and evaluation
  • Critical analysis of visual sources
  • Balanced written communication
  • Justified decision-making using evidence
  • Creative presentation skills

What’s Included

  • Full lesson PowerPoints (designed for five 1-hour lessons)

ASDAN History Short Course Bundle – 3 Project-Based Modules (5B3, 3B5, 2B2) – KS3/KS4

This bundle provides a ready-to-teach, project-based pathway for the ASDAN History Short Course, bringing together three creative short course modules (5B3, 3B5, and 2B2). Each module is designed to actively engage learners through investigation, discussion, design, and evaluation, while generating clear evidence for the ASDAN portfolio. When delivered together and assessed in line with ASDAN requirements, the three projects support the accumulation of three credits, leading to Silver level. **Purchasing the bundle offers a saving of approximately 20% compared to buying each short course separately.** Rather than worksheet-only tasks, learners take part in structured historical projects that encourage curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Students analyse historical interpretations, explore significance and representation, and apply their understanding to meaningful outcomes such as design work, presentations, and reflective evaluations. Each project is self-contained but builds naturally into a coherent learning pathway. What Students Will Do Across the three projects, learners will research historical figures and events, analyse sources and viewpoints, make justified decisions using evidence, produce creative historical outcomes, present their ideas formally, and evaluate both their work and their contribution to group tasks. Each short course concludes with a clear, assessable outcome suitable for ASDAN moderation. Skills Developed Historical enquiry and interpretation; understanding of significance, perspective, and representation; critical thinking and justification; creative communication and presentation skills; teamwork and collaboration; self-reflection and evaluation. What’s Included ✔ Three complete ASDAN History Short Course projects (Modules 5B3, 3B5, and 2B2) ✔ Detailed Schemes of Work for each project ✔ Full lesson PowerPoints for every lesson ✔ Printable student worksheets and workpacks designed for evidence collection ✔ Structured research, planning, presentation, and evaluation activities ✔ SEND-friendly, project-based tasks suitable for KS3 / KS4 and alternative provision Everything is designed to be plug-and-play, allowing teachers to deliver the course with minimal preparation while maintaining high engagement and clear assessment opportunities. Who Is This For? This resource is ideal for ASDAN History Short Course delivery, KS3 / KS4 learners, SEND and alternative provision settings, and teachers seeking engaging, creative projects that support credit accumulation.
