A science lesson aimed at Lower KS2 focusing on animal habitats and what living things need to survive. Pupils explore different habitats before choosing an animal and using hexagon templates to sort and select what their chosen creature would need in its environment.

The PowerPoint then includes a follow-up habitat design activity where pupils plan and create their own habitat. This worked particularly well as part of a wider cross-curricular project, leading into pupils building their habitats in shoe boxes and creating stop motion animations using toy animals.

Includes:

  • PowerPoint lesson input
  • PDF cut-and-stick hexagon worksheets
  • Habitat design activity
  • Cross-curricular creative follow-up ideas

Ideal for developing:

  • Understanding of habitats and animal needs
  • Classification and sorting skills
  • Scientific thinking and discussion
  • Creativity and design skills
  • Speaking and listening

Suitable for Lower KS2 and adaptable for mixed ability, ALN/SEN/SRB learners.
