A worksheet on addition and subtraction within 10. There are four exercises. In the first exercise students have to find the answer to given additions and subtractions with two numbers within 10 (answers also within 10). In the second exercise students have to find the missing number in given additions or subtractions within 10. In the third exercise students have to find the missing number in equalities in which both sides are additions or subtractions within 10. In the fourth exercise students have to use 3 given numbers (two numbers and their sum) to write additions and subtractions in different ways. Answers are included.

Are your primary students working on early addition and subtraction facts? This print-and-go practice activity sheet is the perfect tool to help Early Years and Key Stage 1 students master basic maths fluency and algebraic thinking within 10!
This clean, no-prep resource is designed to build deep number sense. It goes far beyond simple drill sheets by challenging students to balance equations and build fact families, making it excellent for maths centres, independent practice, or homework.

What is Included?

  • Direct Fluency Practice: Standard addition and subtraction problems to build rapid maths fact recall.
  • Missing Numbers: Encourages algebraic thinking by putting the missing number boxes in different positions.
  • Balancing Equations: Advanced logic-style problems where students must solve both sides of an equal sign to find the unknown value.
  • Fact Family Calculations: Gives students three target numbers and asks them to construct two addition and two subtraction equations from scratch.
  • Full Answer Key: Complete, worked-out solutions included to save you time marking or to project directly onto the board for self-assessment (pp. 3-4).

Perfect For:

  • Reception / Early Years (EYFS): Maths extension and challenge.
  • Key Stage 1 (KS1): Year 1 and Year 2 core fluency and reasoning.
  • Flexible Use: Ideal for homework assignments, morning starters, independent study, or hassle-free cover lessons.
