Used with my Year 1 class in the Spring term for the 'Addition and Subtraction unit week 2' block of the White Rose Maths Hubs scheme. Objective: Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20.
Child friendly objective: Add by making 10.

I have included differentiated sheets for lower/middle/higher ability. Apologies - Dodgy formatting on MS Word meant that I had to split into part 1 and 2 as it wouldn't let me begin a new page without screwing everything up!

LA - Children must find 10 objects and circle 10. They then count on from 10 to find out how many overall. Original calculation is provided.
MA - Children must first work out what the calculation is using the picture clues. They then find 10 and count on to calculate the answer. They also complete a part-whole model to show how adding 10 makes the whole.
HA - Children split a number in a calculation when they 'steal' part of it to make 10. They complete a part whole model (concrete resources recommended for splitting a number).
