A cut-and-stick activity where student match the job title with a brief description of what each role is.

This is a way to introduce a range of NHS careers to younger students. It includes some clinical roles (individuals who deliver patient care) and some non-clinical roles (individuals who work ‘behind the scenes’ to keep the hospital running smoothly. It’s a good opportunity to explain that the NHS isn’t just doctors and nurses and there’s a role for everyone! For more information on the breadth of NHS Careers, please visit:

The roles included are: paramedic, nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, pharmacist, speech and language therapist, radiographer, healthcare assistant, porter, receptionist, cleaner, surgeon.

I’ve used this activity to then have conversations around ‘who do you think is the most important’ and challenging them with ‘why?’ questions. There is no right or wrong answers, it’s just interesting to see their perceptions!
