A complete, engaging programme of 12 academic and study skills sessions designed to help students become more independent, reflective, and effective learners. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes, making them ideal for tutor time, assemblies, intervention groups, or structured independent revision.

These sessions break down complex ideas from cognitive science and study theory into clear, student-friendly explanations that genuinely stick. Students are introduced to powerful concepts such as metacognition, the forgetting curve, and neuroplasticity in ways that are accessible and relevant to their everyday learning. Alongside this, they develop practical strategies they can immediately apply, including Cornell note taking, decoding exam questions, building academic vocabulary, and using revision techniques such as spaced practice and “revision roulette.”

The programme also recognises the importance of balance. Sessions on micro-habits and maintaining a healthy approach to revision encourage students to build sustainable routines, combining productivity with self-care and mindfulness. The final session brings everything together, prompting students to reflect on their learning and commit to applying the strategies in a meaningful, personalised way.

Carefully structured and highly practical, this set of sessions is ideal for building confidence, improving study habits, and raising attainment across a wide range of abilities. It works equally well as a standalone programme or as part of a wider whole-school approach to learning skills.
