In this activity, students will examine the history of slavery from the ancient world through to the abolition movements of the 18th and 19th centuries, with particular attention to the transatlantic slave trade and the conditions endured by enslaved Africans during the Middle Passage. They will also explore the political campaigns and key figures in both the British and American abolitionist movements, tracing the legislative milestones that led to emancipation and considering the ongoing resistance and inequality that followed the formal end of slavery.
