This document is a short guide for students seeking a place at Oxford or Cambridge Universities and the teachers preparing them. It is written by a Dr Peter Harris, a teacher who went to St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, and who now advises students on how to increase their chances of being successful. The guide draws on his experiences as a student and his experiences of preparing students. It does by no means guarantee success, but it aims to improve the chances of prospective students. The guide provides advice on writing personal statements, practising for interviews and preparing for admissions tests. It also guides students in how to choose between Oxford and Cambridge and what the relationship is between the colleges and the universities of which they are part. It is a clear and succinct in its style.
