A mindful, trauma-sensitive tool to support staff through sensitive safeguarding conversations with pupils, including a co-regulation practice.

Designed for DSLs, pastoral staff, TAs, and SENCOs, this resource gives you three practical steps to stay calm, present, and observant while talking with a child, so your own regulation supports your safeguarding role.

It includes a short practice for regulating yourself before a difficult conversation, guidance on noticing distress, and a gentle grounding tool you can offer a child, with a trauma-sensitive alternative for pupils who find closing their eyes difficult.

This resource sits alongside your school’s statutory safeguarding procedures, it is not a replacement for them and is not a diagnostic or clinical tool.

This document pairs naturally with our visual posters to help young people self-regulate - also available on our TES account.

Created by Lorraine E Murray, teacher trainer with 20+ years of experience bringing mindfulness to adults, teens and children, and trained in working with aged 3 to 17.
