This is a carefully designed teaching pack for A Different History by Sujata Bhatt, created for Cambridge IGCSE Literature (0475) and especially useful for teaching poetry from Songs of Ourselves Volume 1.

I wanted this pack to be more than just a set of worksheets. It is designed to help students really get to grips with the poem’s big ideas in a manageable, engaging way — particularly identity, language, colonial influence, culture, memory and the tension between personal and inherited history. The materials aim to support both class teaching and revision, while also helping students move towards more thoughtful, developed literary essays.

I have tried to make the whole resource visually clear, practical and easy to use in a real classroom — something that can save planning time while still giving students meaningful, well-structured support.

Included in this pack:
Editable teaching deck
Line-by-line analysis
Student worksheets
8 class activities
Essay questions
3 exemplar responses

Please let me know how this worked for you and your teaching / learning.
