A booklet designed for use in a 10 English unit studying the novel The Outsiders.

It includes context about the author and her inspiration for the novel, a fill in the blanks synopsis (with a word bank provided), key terms to add to the glossary, instructions for writing chapter summaries, a list of the themes in the novel and graphic organisers for recording evidence of each theme (4 quotes), a retrieval chart for students to add information about the characters in the novel as well as a reminder of language features & text structures to look out for. There is also some assessment scaffolding including a paragraph writing activity, reminders about the three question stems they could get in their exam, the recommended structure for their essay (intro, 2 body paragraphs and a conclusion), analytical essay genre conventions, anchor words, writing a thesis, important punctuation rules, how to quote in an essay and an image of the “chain of evidence” method for analysing LF / TS in an essay.

NB: In schools where printing is an issue, it is still useful for teachers to fill in as preparation for their own lessons or to be made into work sheets.

P.S. Useful for giving to students who have to travel away during the school term / who are suspended for a long period of time.
