This free download is part of our Are You Right? Cheeky Series and is designed to provide children with the opportunity to read isolated CVC words containing the graphemes A, B, I, M, N, O, S, T, and U without the distraction of accompanying pictures, while adding a little cheeky humour with the inclusion of the word “bum”.

After reading each word, children simply turn the page to view the accompanying picture and confirm the accuracy of their reading. This approach encourages children to decode the word independently before connecting it to its meaning.

For the best reading experience, we recommend viewing our eBooks on a tablet, iPad, or phone, although a computer works well too. To view the eBook in single-page view, we recommend using Apple Books, Google Play Books, or an application such as Icecream eBook Reader.

These eBooks have been specifically designed to be viewed in single-page view. Presenting one word at a time helps minimise distractions and allows children to focus on accurate decoding. Once the word has been read, the accompanying picture can be used to confirm understanding and encourage discussion about meaning.

While developing accurate word-reading skills is important, reading is about more than simply getting the words right. Children should also be encouraged to think about the meaning of what they are reading. By separating the word and picture onto individual pages, children are given the opportunity to decode the word independently before connecting it to its meaning.
