This, is the Pirate Game! It is amazing! Updated for 2026. I play this with each of my classes at the end of each term. This resource includes my updated version of my original game sheet included a symbol I’ve used over the past few years - the ‘Lightning Bolt’ symbol. The resource includes my Pirate Game sheet (pdf), a fully editable ppt file with the Pirate Game sheet so you can adapt it to include your own symbols/rules. The Grid to display on the IWB and I have also updated and provided a guide as to how to play the game for anyone who hasn’t had the pleasure as of yet.

I have uploaded my mini pirate poetry unit that is suitable for year 1 and 2. This unit is only 5 lessons (but could be spread further or tweaked to be less). The lessons include 2 reading lessons linking to the poem ‘I wish I was a pirate’ by Tony Bradman, followed by 2 writing lessons, 1 of which focuses on alliteration. Differentiation of tasks is evident for almost all, with the end visual success criterias adapted for all learners from year 1 and year 2. Success criterias are picture based throughout to help students be successful as independently as possible. The end product is a verse (or more for year 2 children) of a pirate poem using the word bank and structure given.

The famous pirate game. Perfect for end-of-term activity. This slight variation uses a random name generator alongside it to choose who gets hit by the uncontrollable bomb (the students love this aspect). Instructions for play are on the notes of the first slide. This slide has the grid on which I use to cross out grid references during the game. All images and text has “no background” so the sheets can be printed on any color sheet and still look good.

A fun, festive, variant on the popular Pirate Game. The rules can be found for The Pirate Game online but let me know if you cannot find them. I hope you enjoy this resource, I know kids love playing this game multiple times. Let me know what you think.

2 weeks of activities based on the story the pirates next door. I have done this in year 1, focusing on adjectives of settings and retelling the story. Second week focuses of for and against text, supported by role play which my children really enjoyed and got into character. I hope your children enjoy this book as much as mine did.
