Algebra. Creating and Expanding Double Brackets. Christmas Challenge. FULL SET Brighten up algebra in the run up to Christmas with this fun little festive challenge. Students need produce two expressions for the area of the surface of my Christmas dinner table – one with brackets and one without. They are presented with two expressions, one for the length and one for the width of the table. To find the first expression (with brackets), they need to apply the formula for the area of a rectangle i.e. multiply length by width. These brackets can then be expanded to produce a second expression for the area of the table. This is a PowerPoint Presentation so it can be easily displayed on the board and/or printed for students. What you are downloading here is the full set which contains a title page, instructions, 20 blank challenges and 20 corresponding answer slides. The full set covers:- (x+)(x+) (x+)(x-) (x-)(x-) (nx+)(nx+) (nx+)(nx-) (nx-)(nx-) A free sample is also available to download and try which contains the title page, instructions, one blank question and corresponding answer slide.

This is a fun way for students to revise expanding expressions using a famous artist (Keith Haring) colouring sheet. Students identify the solution to each question in one of the three answer boxes. They then find the question number on the colouring sheet and colour the section in the colour that corresponds to their answer. Included in your purchase is ONE activity: a question sheet, answer sheet and colouring sheet. I print this as an A5 booklet (also included) so that students can then glue this into their notebooks. Students can also mark their answers by comparing their colouring sheet to the original artwork. An engaging way for students to learn about algebra and art!
