Erica's Errors - A Level (Year 2 - Pure) Bundle

Erica is struggling with many aspects of the A level mathematics course and needs help from your students. What you have here is 17 of her homeworks, each with mistakes in solutions which your students need to find, correct and explain where Erica has gone wrong. These are purely designed to generate discussion and to allow students to demonstrate their understanding, whilst also allowing them to show their own methods of solving problems. These are all based upon the new A level curriculum.

In this PowerPoint, we introduce the Binomial theorem as part of the syllabus for Pure Mathematics (AS Level). In the first section, there are mentions to specific details to use the formula correctly as well as different approaches to calculate the coefficient for a specific power of the variable. In the last section, we explore different examples of worked exam-style questions, where all steps are clear and detailed. Hopefully, this resource can assist students when preparing for their examinations but also as a complementary teaching tool.

These tests are also now available on Kahoot and cover Pure, Statistics and Mechanics. Please see this listing /teaching-resource/resource-12474881 I’ve updated the resource I made before and mapped it to the new specification and chapter list from the Pearson text book. These are short multiple choice tests for a quick assessment. Students should be able to answer almost all mentally. Any errors, please let me know.

PPT - Vectors - Further Pure 1

In this PowerPoint, we explore the topic of “Vectorsâ€. It consists of an initial section where we go over what was learned previously, during Pure Mathematics (A2 level). Afterwards, we explore additional features of the “Further Pure Mathematics course, such as the vector product between 2 vectors as well as the vector equation and the Cartesian equations of a plane. We also introduce extra formulas for the distance between a point and a line or a point and a plane or even between 2 skew lines, amongst other. As in previous similar resources, we include, not one but 2 sections of examples of solved exam style questions. The intention is emphasizing the relation between the algebraic and geometric techniques used for A2 – Pure Mathematics and the new set of formulae available in the course of Further Pure Mathematics. As before, these examples will explore: • Possible intersections between lines and planes • Angles between lines and planes • Distances between points, lines and planes In each example, we can find detailed explanations complemented with key diagrams and tips for similar cases. Hopefully, this resource can help students when revising for their examinations as well as teachers, who can use it a complement to their explanations in lessons.

I’ve updated my Kahoot quizzes and have now added Core Pure tests for Year 1 and Year 2. I predominantly use them as a retrieval tool. If you spot a mistake, please let me know as a comment below. Pure, Stats and Mechanics should all have been QA’ed by my own use but Core Pure are all new. There are a few chapters without quizzes because I couldn’t figure out how to make them Kahootable, like Linear Transformations in Core Pure 1. If you have any good ideas, please let me know. Links are in the file.

PPT – Differentiation – AS Pure Mathematics

In this PowerPoint, we explore the concept of differentiation, designed for the AS Pure Mathematics course. We begin by introducing the reasoning behind first principles and then progress to different properties of derivatives of curves. There are mentions to the relation between the tangent and the normal of curves in given points as well as the use of the “chain rule†for the derivative of a composition of functions and to solve multiple problems involving rates of change. Additionally, we explore different examples of worked exam-style questions, where all steps are clear and detailed. Hopefully, this resource can help students in their preparation for examinations and can also be used as a complementary teaching tool, when delivering these topics.
