This role suits someone who enjoys helping primary-age pupils access learning and make measurable progress. You will work mornings (7:40–12:40, Monday–Friday), providing small-group support, delivering targeted literacy and numeracy interventions and creating a calm, inclusive classroom.

About this role / why this role matters

You will support teachers and the Director of SEND to remove barriers so pupils can access the curriculum. Your work will improve children’s confidence and progress, especially for those needing extra help with key skills.

What you'll be doing (responsibilities)

  • Provide in-class support and run small literacy and numeracy intervention groups.

  • Prepare and adapt learning resources and classroom displays.

  • Promote pupil independence, confidence and positive attitudes to learning.

  • Support behaviour management and safeguard pupil wellbeing.

  • Assist with assessment and progress tracking as directed.

  • Supervise pupils before school, during duties and on trips when required.

  • Attend staff meetings and relevant professional development.

What we're looking for (requirements)

Essential:

  • Good general standard of education (GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Mathematics).

  • Experience with primary/prep school children in classroom or small-group settings.

  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to use ICT to support learning.

  • Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and child development.

  • Reliable, organised, patient and able to work as part of a classroom team.

Desirable:

  • Relevant childcare or TA qualification (e.g. Level 2/3).

  • First aid training, or willingness to train.

  • Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs.

About the team or department

You will join the Prep School team, working closely with class teachers and the Director of SEND. The department focuses on early identification of need and practical, classroom-based interventions that promote independence and inclusion.

Edgeborough is one of Surrey’s top preparatory schools.

There are approximately 380 children aged 2 – 13, the huge majority of whom go on to some of the country’s leading independent senior schools.
