Job overview

Build your CPD and take fresh ideas and practical insights back to your classroom.

AQA is recruiting A-level Dance visiting examiners to complete seven centre visits to assess performances.

This role requires no previous examining or awarding body experience.

What are the benefits?

  • Build your CPD and strengthen your assessment and marking confidence, with insights you can take back into your classroom.

  • See performance work from a range of schools or colleges and discover new ideas that can inspire your teaching.

  • Join a community of Dance specialists, sharing best practice and working alongside experienced teachers and examiners.

  • Earn up to £1,420 for seven-day centre visits, with travel expenses fully covered.

Key responsibilities

  • Complete seven centre visits between March and May to observe and assess live performance work. Teacher release vouchers and travel expenses are provided.

  • Liaise with Dance teachers to arrange visit dates that work for you and the centre. It may be possible to cover two centres in one day, or complete a visit in the evening.

  • Apply the mark scheme confidently and consistently during live performance assessments.

What support is available?

  • Your team leader will accompany you on your first visit and provide support throughout the examining period.

  • Comprehensive training and ongoing guidance to help you feel confident and succeed in the role.

  • Teacher release vouchers to support your school.

What we're looking for

  • At least three full terms of Dance teaching experience within the last five years.

  • A senior referee who can verify your relevant experience.

  • Preferably a degree, teaching qualification or equivalent in Dance.

  • Availability during the standardisation and examining period.

Hear from an existing visiting examiner:

“Visiting examining allows me to connect with other teachers and see fresh ideas.

It gives me a deeper understanding of the qualification and what AQA is looking for. I can directly apply this knowledge to my teaching, ensuring students achieve their potential. It also boosts my confidence in my marking, so there are no surprises on results day."
