Job overview

Croydon High School is looking for a dedicated Chemistry Technician to join our thriving Science department. You'll prepare equipment for lessons and practicals, trial experiments ahead of teaching, and support staff and students through the day-to-day rhythm of a busy science department, while also managing departmental stock and upholding rigorous health and safety standards in line with CLEAPSS and COSHH guidelines.

This is a part-time, term-time role (21.6 hours/week, 8am–4pm Monday to Wednesday, plus 15 additional days during closure periods including INSET days), ideal for someone who enjoys variety, values precision, and wants to make a genuine difference to girls' science education.

About you

We're seeking someone with laboratory experience, academic or industrial, who is organised, reliable and calm under pressure, particularly during the fast turnarounds between lessons. You'll need strong communication and interpersonal skills, a methodical approach to prioritising tasks, and the discretion to handle confidential information such as exam practicals. GCSE (or equivalent) Maths, English and Science at grade C or above is essential, while an A Level in a science subject, a relevant technician qualification, or a first aid at work qualification would all be an advantage.
