This resource introduces blending, the skill of pushing individual letter sounds together to read a whole word.

Children practise saying short, clear sounds, using sound buttons, and reading simple words such as cat, sun, pig and shop, including the digraphs sh, ch and th. It is a ready-to-teach PowerPoint scaffold for an hour-long lesson on blending sounds to read words.

Two hands-on activities are included: Robot Talk and a Word Hunt around the room.
