Bring The King’s Breakfast to life with this activity-packed Ready, Steady, Write! resource, designed to build excitement and vocabulary before children complete an extended piece of writing.

Inspired by A. A. Milne’s The King’s Breakfast, children explore the poem before taking part in engaging activities including making butter, retelling and storyboarding the poem, and designing a breakfast fit for a king.

The writing culminates in children creating their own Royal Breakfast Menu for King Charles III.

Included:

  • Ready-to-use teaching slides
  • Separate printable copy of The King’s Breakfast
  • Breakfast-themed starter activity
  • Royal Breakfast Menu writing template
  • Alternative menu template with wider-spaced lines to support different writers

The starter encourages children to draw their own breakfast and describe it using adjectives, helping to introduce useful descriptive language before the main activities begin.

A playful, practical approach to writing that combines poetry, speaking and listening, sequencing, DT/food activities and purposeful extended writing.

Ideal for: KS1 / lower KS2, poetry units, creative writing days and themed English lessons.
