In this activity, students will examine the causes and consequences of the Peloponnesian War, tracing how the rivalry between Athens and Sparta escalated into a 27-year conflict that transformed the balance of power in ancient Greece. They will also explore how Athens’ catastrophic defeat in Sicily and Sparta’s Persian-backed naval campaign combined to bring about the collapse of the Athenian Empire.
