This is a one-page worksheet available in both colour and black and white to introduce your students to annotating texts. It encourages them to think about when they can and can’t write in books (e.g. you wouldn’t write in a library book, or in someone else’s book) alongside the purpose of annotation. There’s an example using the first paragraph from E Nesbit’s ‘The Railway Children’. I’ve put in two versions of the worksheet, one has a table completed or what annotating is and isn’t, and the other has that table completed. It depends on how much time you’d like to allocate to this.
