This three-lesson pack introduces students to market research and market mapping.

Lesson 15 explores the purpose and value of market research, comparing primary and secondary research and how businesses use research to reduce risk and make better decisions. Students apply their understanding through real-world examples, a 6-mark analyse question on PureGym and a 9-mark evaluate question using retail market research data.

Lesson 16 develops this further by examining quantitative and qualitative data, confidence levels, confidence intervals and sampling, before students evaluate whether increased market research spending could improve Apple’s profitability. Finally,

Lesson 17 introduces market mapping, showing students how businesses identify market gaps, position products and analyse competitors. Students construct their own market maps before completing a 9-mark assess question on whether market mapping could increase the profitability of Google Pixel.
