In this activity, students will examine the often-overlooked Middle East theatre of the First World War, tracing the British campaign from the defence of the Suez Canal in 1915 through to the cavalry charge at Beersheba in 1917. They will explore how water supply and the decisions of individual commanders determined the outcome of a campaign that contributed directly to the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
