This is a double lesson (2 HOURS) with a focus on war and violence. ALL resources are contained within the PPT and just need to be printed (whole page slides and 2 slides per page. The first part of the lesson asks pupils to consider the positives and negatives of war. It then asks them to use these to formulate a judgement to the question: Can war ever be right?

The next task then asks them to create their own 5 conditions of a Just War - if they are in charge of the world, what conditions would they put in place to ensure that wars are fought fairly. This is then compared to existing Just War rules (in the lesson itself, this relates to Hinduism, but the slide can be substituted with any Just War conditions).

The final task is a game of war. There are 10 countries with varying situations. Pupils get into groups of 2-3 depending on the size of the class. They are assigned a country and they have to take 5 actions against the other countries to try and win the game of war. These actions are updated on the live leaderboard and the final task is to illustrate who the winner of the conflict is. You then consider whether they stuck to the conditions that they created at the start and draw this together.
