This resource is a double-sided worksheet/ phrase sheet that has been prepared for native English speakers (with no background knowledge of Turkish). The host will need intermediate knowledge of the Turkish language to best support with this workshop, which is aimed at getting attendees to speak a few phrases or sentences in Turkish. Initially, the host would read out each phrase and the audience would repeat after (to help pronounce each word as correctly as possible). Then, allow a minute or two for note taking, followed by pairing the audience in groups of twos to practice the introductory phrases with each other. Advance to the relatively more challenging phrases at the start of Page 2 once the attendees are confident with Page 1 content.

The ultimate goal is for the attendees to be able to speak a few sentences about themselves in Turkish to introduce themselves with confidence. This is the final task, where every attendee would write a short introductory paragraph about themselves, including greetings, their name, age, and what they like and/or dislike. All these phrases can be adapted using the content of the worksheet. There is space provided for this paragraph at the end of Page 2. Where time allows, encourage the attendees to read out their introductory paragraph (in Turkish) to introduce themselves as a plenary activity.

Whilst this workshop was originally prepared for Key Stage 3 students in England, the resource can be adapted to other age groups and audiences too. For best print results, I have attached a PDF copy. However, for those who may want an editable word file, I have provided this as well.

Expected time to completion: 45 to 60 minutes.
