Explore the night sky through poetry, art and descriptive writing with this complete Ready, Steady, Write! resource, inspired by Jane Taylor’s The Star – the poem beginning with the familiar words Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

This cross-curricular writing day uses poetry and artwork as inspiration before children plan and complete their own extended descriptive writing.

The accompanying teaching plan includes opportunities for music, poetry discussion, contrasting poetry, PSHE, star-inspired artwork, planning and extended writing, creating an engaging build-up to the final writing task.

For the Big Write, children create a descriptive narrative about the night sky, drawing on their knowledge of noun phrases and developing ideas through adjectives, nouns, verbs and punctuation.
