A unit of work exploring poems from 16th century until 1990. Unit explores how poets exploit conventions and explore and challenge ideas of the time. Poems include: Sonnet 129, The Sunne Rising, The Tyger, The Laboratory, Cousin Kate, Do Not Go Gentle, You’re and MIss Haversham.

Each poem has a detailed lesson plan, including integrated oracy tasks. There are peer and self-assessment tasks; non-examples of text types and model responses for pupils to analyse and discuss.

There is a anthology booklet with convention checklists, reading guides and timeline to use whilst teaching. There is also an independent work booklet for pupils, which could be used for homework tasks.

The unit has an assessment task with ideas for structuring and planning a response.
