This full GCSE English Literature lesson takes students through the context of ‘Macbeth,’ and how Lady Macbeth’s character develops after the regicide / murder of King Duncan. Students will be able to annotate Lady Macbeth’s lines in Act 2 Scene 2 and identify what methods Shakespeare has used to convey meaning. Slides on the powerpoint alternate between fully labelled sections and prompts for pair and solo work. Relevant context e.g. Great Chain of Being, patriarchy etc are included. The lesson leads towards students writing an essay response about this scene. By this stage in the play it is unlikely that they have covered the full development of her character so the essay is only focused on this question.
The lesson would work with any exam board treating Macbeth as a GCSE text (Edexcel / Pearson, AQA, Eduqas etc)
