A complete, ready-to-teach 6-week reading fluency intervention for KS2.
Develop fluent, expressive reading, sentence construction, vocabulary and Tudor curriculum knowledge through a consistent three-session weekly routine. Ideal for catch-up groups, SEND support, dyslexia intervention, tutoring and TA-led provision. No additional planning is required: print the pupil pack, open the slides and begin teaching.

Each week includes three 15-minute sessions using the Explore–Practise–Apply model.

This is Step 2 of the four-level Tudors Reading Fluency Pathway. Choose this step individually or purchase the complete 4-step pathway containing Starter Step and Steps 1–3.

STEP 2
Step 2 is suitable for pupils who can access Year 3 level with reasonable confidence or Year 4 with effort. In Step 2, sentences begin to hold more than one idea and the vocabulary complexity increases. Sentences are longer and use a range of subordinate conjunctions as well as fronted adverbials. By the end of the step, children read and build sentences that start with a subordinate clause.

Included in the Step:

  • Six weeks of ready to teach PowerPoints (1 per week. Each week includes three 15-minute sessions)
  • Printable pupil pack
  • Pre- and post-assessment
  • Adult guidance
  • Games and practice activities

Point One Learning Pathways use a guided release learning model called Explore, Practise, Apply.

Each passage is taught over three 15-minute lessons that gradually move from high modelling and support in Explore to being able to independently perform their learning and transfer to a new text in Apply.

The 5–Point Fluency Routine is used to structure the learning in the Reading Fluency Pathway lessons:

Decode It : Children learn to break words into syllables to help them decode
Phrase It: Echo reading helps children improve phrasing, intonation, expression and when to pause
Extend It: Children build syntactic understanding, gradually extending sentences so they read with fluency and understanding
Build It: Children deepen their syntactic understanding alongside their fluency (and sentence building skills) by forming their own sentences based on the structural focus of the passage.
Perform It: Children perform their best, fluent reading applying the skills learned that week.

The pathway develops:

✔ reading accuracy
✔ phrasing and expression
✔ vocabulary
✔ sentence understanding
✔ sentence construction
✔ reading confidence

while building background knowledge through National Curriculum history content.

Point One Fluency Pathways are suitable for:

  • KS2 intervention
  • Reading fluency groups
  • Guided reading
  • Catch-up
  • SEND
  • Dyslexia support
  • Reading leads
  • Teaching assistants

Find the starting point. Build from there.
