In this activity, students will examine the life and reign of Mary I of England, exploring how her early experiences of illegitimacy and religious marginalisation influenced her determination to restore Catholicism once she came to power. They will investigate the key events of her reign, including the Marian Persecutions and the loss of Calais, before assessing whether her notorious nickname ‘Bloody Mary’ accurately captures the full scope of her time on the English throne.
