A three-step mindful practice for staff to use in the moment when classroom behaviour escalates, including a co-regulation technique for pupils.

Designed for classroom teachers and TAs, this resource gives you a short, in-the-moment sequence: notice the trigger in the pupil and in yourself, take one anchoring breath, then use a small physical anchor to help both of you feel steadier.

It includes a grounding technique using the fingertips of both hands pressed together, which gives pupils something concrete to feel and can help them regain a sense of control, along with age-adapted guidance for EYFS/KS1, KS2, and Secondary, and notes for SEND and trauma-sensitive pupils, including a non-verbal cue card option.

This resource uses the same breathing pattern as our calming posters, so pupils working with both are learning one consistent approach. It sits alongside your school’s behaviour policy.

Created by Lorraine E Murray, meditation teacher trainer with 20+ years of experience bringing mindfulness to adults, teens and children, and trained in working with trauma-experienced children aged 3 to 17.
